What is Pilates?
Pilates is a way of exercising that focuses on the strength of the whole body, improving the function and mobility of the body whilst reducing muscular imbalances. Its the best form of exercise I have found to reduce the risk of injury but is also suitable for everyone of all ages and abilitie. Its a structured and disciplined way of exercising, which I think is part of the reason why I love it. The structure and discpline of Pilates means that although it can be adapted to suit everyone it is not easy. Its challenging and requires commitment and focus.
History of Pilates
Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early twentieth century as a new approach to exercise and body conditioning. He was a sickly child and took part in many forms of exercise throughout his life to get stronger and healthier. During World War 1 the British interned him as a German enemy alien. He used this time to develop what we now know as Pilates.
In 1923 Joseph Pilates moved to America and opened his first studio in New York. His new method was an instant hit, particularly with dancers. They found Pilates was the best way both to recover from injuries and to prevent their recurrence.
Joseph Pilates developed his method as a mental as well as a physical conditioning in which individuals could work their bodies to their full potential.

Chairlates
Chairlates is a mainly seated class which still involves the underlying Pilates principles but is more suited to those that are less mobile, struggle to get up and down from the floor, or have trouble kneeling.
The class will aim to make you more mobile, improve your core and overall strength.

My aim is to make exercise accessible to all abilities.
1 to 1 sessions
£45
During these sessions you will be guided through the basic principles, have a full postural assessment and have a programme devised to help improve any postural issues, rehabilitate any injuries and work towards your own personal goals within your individual abilities and limitations.

2 to 1 sessions
£45 (£22.50 each)
Book a session with a friend if you don't want to come along on your own. Ideally you need to be of a similar level of experience and with the same sort of aims and objectives for you both to get the most out of the sessions.

Groups classes
£12 pay as you go per session
£36 for 4 class credits (£9 per session)
